Your first step is to get your real estate license.

Before you can start your flexible, meaningful, high earning-potential real estate career, you'll need to take PRE-Licensing classes and pass the licensing exam.

In partnership with the Illinois REALTORS® Licensing and Training Center, we make it easier for you to find out if a career in real estate is right for you.

We'll begin by guiding you through our Pre-Licensing class options either day time in-person classes or online classes, giving you options to match your schedule.

We offer in-person pre-license classes 4 times a year. Find out when our classes are and don't miss your chance to sit in one of our courses.

To qualify for an Illinois Real Estate Broker License in the State of Illinois, you must be at least 18 years old, a high school graduate or equivalent (G.E.D.), successfully complete the required 75 hours of coursework, and pass the state licensing exam. After completing the 75 hour coursework, you will have successfully met all of the state's education requirements and will qualify to sit for the Illinois State and National Real Estate Broker License exam.

PRE-License Course Descriptions

The required pre-license coursework to earn a broker license in Illinois consists of two courses equal to 75 hours of study.

Broker Pre-License Topics: 60-hour course covering real estate concepts such as brokerage, real property, contracts, and real estate math.

Broker Applied Real Estate Principles: 15-hour course that applies real estate concepts to real-life scenarios.

Steps to Becoming a Real Estate Broker in Illinois

For more information and complete details of the steps highlighted below, please read the

  1. Complete 75-Hour Pre-License Course

    60 Hour: Broker Pre-License Topics
    15 Hour: Broker Pre-License Applied Real Estate Principles

    Once you receive your course transcripts, sign up to take the exam

  2. Request an optional Full-Course Review

    If you took your class online or if you want a refresh before you take the exam, request for an optional comprehensive review session with an instructor.

  3. Take the State Licensing Exam

    Register for the Illinois real estate licensing exam administred by PSI/AMP. Register to take your exam at a testing location and pay $58 fee.

  4. Apply for a Real Estate License

    After passing the exam, complete application and pay $125 fee through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

  5. Interview a Sponsoring Brokerage

    Contact brokerage representatives to set up an interview with one of our company leaders. Ask questions and research the brokerage. 

  6. Choose a Brokerage

    After the interviews, choose which brokerage to sponsor your license that aligns with your career goals and has a culture where you can flourish.

  7. Complete License Application & Join a Real Estate Board

    If your brokerage mandates that you join a REALTOR® Association, you will need to apply and pay association dues.

  8. Take 45 Hour POST-License

    To be completed prior to next renewal cycle. Until courses are completed, the Designated Managing Broker will assume greater responsibility for your real estate licensed activities.
